Full Circle | Joseph

“God made it turn out for the best.”

Have you ever experienced a full circle moment?

The type of experience where you recognize that you started as one thing, but now you’ve come full circle to become something even better.

Full circle moments can also be frustrating when they mean returning to where you began after many years and hard work, with nothing seemingly changed.

However, in God’s kingdom, a full circle moment signifies a redemptive experience—one where we see that God has transformed our life from something old to something new, something broken to something whole, and something stagnant to something extraordinary.

These moments are evidence of God’s active presence in our lives, surpassing our capabilities. Full circle moments can leave us in awe, prompting us to pause and reevaluate what has happened. The Bible is overflowing with full circle moments, the redemptive kind. Stories that inspire hope about God’s transformation of situations for believers.

 Joseph’s Full Circle Story
(Genesis 37-50)

Joseph was the eleventh of twelve brothers, who would one day become the twelve tribes of Israel. As a favored son, he seemed to have a perfect life. However, one day, Joseph had a couple of dreams that suggested his older brothers would eventually bow to him. Like many younger brothers, he excitedly shared these dreams with his siblings, which was not the most brilliant move, but it set the stage for his dramatic full circle moment.

Joseph’s outward full circle moments occurred when:

  • He went from being an Egyptian slave in prison to second-in-command for the King of Egypt living in the king’s palace.
  • He was rejected by his brothers and sold into slavery to be reconciled with his brothers and the deliverer of his brothers.
  • He was the youngest and had no authority over his brothers to having authority over his brothers. His authority transcended simple authority because Joseph had the power to save them and their families’ lives from the horrible famine. Joseph’s brothers did bow at his feet just as the dreams foretold.

Joseph’s inward full circle moments occurred when:

  • He chose forgiveness over bitterness and resentment.
  • He continued to honor God by living a life of integrity and faith despite the difficult path he had to walk.
  • He exhibited patience as he waited for all that God had promised.

But Joseph replied, “Don’t be afraid of me. Am I God, that I can punish you? You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. No, don’t be afraid. I will continue to take care of you and your children.” So he reassured them by speaking kindly to them. (Genesis 50:19- 21, NLT)

God is a miracle-working God, capable of the impossible, and can accomplish more than we can imagine. He is also unhurried, and His timing often doesn’t match ours. While He always has our best interests at heart, He also considers others in His plans.

Do we genuinely believe that God will turn our situation around for good? Are we willing to wait in faith and take actions that honor Him during that wait?

Full Circle | Joseph to Jesus

Joseph’s journey is a powerful testament to how God works in our lives, bringing us full circle through challenges and ultimately leading us to the life we intend to have. His story is also a beautiful illustration of God’s incredible redemptive plan for humanity, culminating in the gift of His Son, Jesus.

  • Joseph was hated by his brothers, and Jesus was hated by his people.
  • Joseph was betrayed and sold. Jesus was betrayed with 30 pieces of silver – the price of a slave.
  • Joseph lived a life of servitude and selflessness, and Jesus’s ministry was characterized by service.
  • Joseph was a shepherd. Jesus is our Good Shepherd
  • Joseph exposed and opposed evil. Jesus came to be the Light of the world, shining His Light into our dark places.
  • Joseph offered a way out of the famine to save His family, becoming a preserver and sustainer of life. Jesus is the provider and preserver of all we need emotionally, spiritually, and physically.
  • Joseph foretold a deliverance from Egypt into the Promised Land on his deathbed. The redemptive power of Jesus was foretold from the beginning of time, the abundant life he would provide on earth and that He would bring us into our promised land, heaven.

Joseph’s story reminds us that even in our lowest moments, there’s a greater purpose at play, weaving our lives into a magnificent tapestry of hope and salvation. Joseph’s life inspires us to trust that every twist and turn can lead us closer to the abundant life in Christ.

I pray that your mind, heart, and soul are opened to the work God is doing right now to bring your situation full circle. May your understanding be broadened and your faith increase. May your patience be overflowing as you wait on the Lord. So be it, in Jesus’ name.

Meditate: God will bring (name your it) full circle.

Reflect: Do you have something you have been holding on to in faith that God would bring full circle? If so, how are you responding while waiting for your full circle moment? What characteristics did Joseph exhibit in his waiting that you need to have more of? What is something you can do to grow more in that area?

Deeper: (As you read through these verses, ask the Spirit to give you wisdom and teach you more about the full circle moment you are waiting for and what He wants you to do while you wait.) Scripture:  Genesis 37-50; Hebrews 10:19-23
