Mic Drop

“You will silence every voice…”

Have you dreamed of the perfect response scenario where everyone is left speechless, everything is set right, and you drop the mic as you walk away?

The perfect response scenario would give us great satisfaction, right? Instead, our real-time scenarios often leave us with a megaphone of voices screaming in our ears, condemning us, shaming us, and redesigning how the conversation could and should have gone down.

What if there is a more compelling way to respond than with the preferred “mic drop?”

Isaiah 54:17 is a verse Christians often use for encouragement when we feel under attack and life relentlessly continues to throw punches. “..no weapon formed against you shall prosper…” (Isaiah 54:17). Verse 17 paints a powerful image of whatever blow we have taken, the incident will not take us out, the opposition will not be successful, and we will be standing when it is all over.

God’s promise to ensure the weapons formed against us will fizzle applies to the “drop the mic” scenarios where we feel attacked and have no answer or way to defend ourselves. But verse 17 offers another promise that addresses the megaphone earful of deflating life-sucking voices that can come after a blow.

“But in that coming day, no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the LORD; their vindication will come from me. I, the LORD, have spoken!”  Isaiah 54:17, NLT

Each phrase in verse 17 builds on the next.

“But in that coming day.”

This day came for us when God sent His Son, Jesus, to earth to take our place. Jesus’ death and resurrection ushered in the presence of God’s Holy Spirit, who is with us. (Galatians 2:20)

“No weapon turned against you will succeed.”

For those who believe, we have the power of the resurrected Christ in us and our lethal defense weapon of faith, which can extinguish every fiery dart the enemy shoots. (Ephesians 6:16)

“You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you.”

When we turn to Jesus, utilize our faith in Him, and listen to His Voice above all others, the destructive voices in our lives lose their power over us. One by one, the messages will dissipate. (John 8: 9-11)

“These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the LORD;”

The benefits referenced in the verse are no weapon prospering against us and the devasting voices being silenced. As servants of the Lord, we can experience these benefits. (John 10:27-29)

“Their vindication will come from me.”

While we may want to put the person(s) who spoke hurtful words in their place, God promises to have the final say and deal with our enemies. (Matthew 12:36-37)

“I, the LORD, have spoken!”

And the LORD has spoken – the first and only valid “mic drop” scenario. God has spoken, and who can undo what He says? (Isaiah 14:27)

Resting in the One who has spoken into our lives, given us the very breath in our lungs, is where our attention needs to be over entertaining the perfect comeback. The heart behind the damaging voices is where the real problem lies. Only God can change a heart.

The next time you dream of the perfect response, an attempt to eliminate the critical voices or the shame you may feel from a situation, remember, God has something better planned to silence those voices. Trust him and dream instead, of the mighty God you serve and how no one wants to experience His mic drop!

I pray the first heart God deals with is our own heart to trust Jesus with any destructive voices in our lives. That we give Him our hearts and give Him the hearts of those who hurt us. May you raise your shield of faith and extinguish every fiery dart headed your way, and the peace of God sweep over you and quiet your mind. So be it, in Jesus’ name.

Meditate: God will silence any voices.

Reflect: When was a time you wanted to and maybe even did respond with the perfect comeback, but the voices in your head hung around long after the incident? How can you claim today’s verse and challenge those voices? How does reflecting on God as the first and last bring comfort?
